Children spend a significant amount of their daily lives in schools where they develop academically, socially, and emotionally. Our ITW research focuses on factors that impact students and their school environment including issues surrounding bullying to challenges faced by students with learning disabilities and structural changes that affect the length of the school day. With the increase presence of social media and the emotional and social demands put on students as they develop, society needs to be aware of not only the causes of bullying, but the deep seeded effects on those who are bullied, the bystanders, and the bullies themselves. Based on our investigation of existing literature, our presentation will address factors that affect the social, emotional, and academic development of children that will lead to a discussion on strategies to support students in these areas and how to educate students on how to notice and prevent bullying.
